Melbourne was issued with a severe thunderstorm warning today for damaging winds and flash flooding. The day started off warm and humid and at midday it was a very sticky 30 degrees. Later in the afternoon the sky began to darken and by 4 o’clock the rain had started and by 4:30 the damage was done. They are estimating that half of the month’s rainfall fell in that half hour. Here’s how it looked in the city:
The approaching storm at Melbourne Airport
Water pouring from a storm drain into the Yarra River in the CBD
A commuter finding it easier to swim than walk in Flinders Street
Not a fun journey home from work with trams delayed and roads blocked
A not so smart cabbie near South Melbourne Market!
