Melbourne sweltered today with hot temperatures and strong north winds. The city hit 46.4 degrees around 3p.m. , the hottest since the bureau of meteorology started keeping records 150 years ago. The previous record was 45.6 set in January 1939 – a day otherwise known as Black Friday.
Relief came as the cool change reached the city at 6p.m. seeing temperatures drop 15 degrees within the hour. Tomorrow is forecast to be a much more pleasant 24 degrees – perfect for wandering around the St Kilda Festival with the children.
