I can hardly believe its been a year since the VERY early arrival of Ruby & Poppy. Its been a challenging year to say the least but lots of fun too. We had a lovely day yesterday with Grandma & Grandad arriving in the morning and then Auntie Jill, Uncle Dave, Auntie Mhairi & Uncle Harry joining us for dinner later. The girls got so many beautiful presents so thanks to everyone!!
OK, what was initially diagnosed as a strain in my hip flexor muscle now turns out to be a stress fracture in the hip joint plus some tears in the muscle thanks to an MRI last week. The good news is that I’m able to keep fully mobile (except no running) but the bad news is that I need to have surgery to repair the tears once the fracture stabilises. Thank goodness mum & dad are coming!
Today in Melbourne 15000 people are taking part in ‘Around the Bay in a Day’. The event allows anyone to participate in the country’s largest single day bike ride around Port Phillip Bay with 250km, 210km, 100km, 80km and 50km ride options. Jill is doing the 210km and she called me when she’d made it to the ferry(in 3hrs 45 min) to cross from Sorrento to Queenscliff before setting off again. She was in great form although a bit sore!! OK so this update is a bit late but she did it!!!!!! Unfortunately she got a puncture 20k out from the finish which delayed her a bit but she managed in around 7.5 hours. Her first reaction was never again but that’s changed during the week and she’s going to put herself through it again (with more training) next year.
A map of the route is below:
It’s 9:30 at night and I just went to check on Ella & Charlie. They’re both sound asleep but this is how I found them:
Today was the big day and despite suffering from a virus this past week Alan somehow managed to finish the race! We saw him around the 15km mark then headed into the MCG to see him finish. My friend Danielle was running too, she’s in one of the pictures below with Jake who is Charlie’s best friend.
This weekend, October 11th, is the Melbourne Marathon. It hardly seems like a year that I, in my heavily pregnant state, took Ella & Charlie to watch Alan finish in the MCG but we’re all set to do it again. I was meant to be running the half marathon but unfortunately 2 weeks ago after a long run I pulled up with a hip injury – hip flexor muscle if that means anything to anyone. After 2 days on crutches the physio was initially confident I’d still be able to run but its not looking likely. I’ve resigned myself to spectating for another year….
